Trilingaswami was born to Nrusimhadhar and Vidyavati in 1607. He was named as Siva Rama and perhaps also as Trailingadhar, because he was born in Trilinga Desa (It is a region between three great Shrines of Paramashiva. Srisailam, Drakshaaraamam and Kaleswaram). He belongs to a Royal family nearer to Visakhapattanam. His parents are devotees of Lord Shiva. He started practising Sadhanas from his childhood. After his mother's death he left his village and started his spiritual journey. In due course of time,he reached Benares and stayed there permanently.
The yogi was great not only spiritually, but physically. His weight exceeded three hundred pounds : a pound for each year of his life. As he ate very seldom, his mystery increased. A master, however, easily ignores all usual rules of health when he desires to do so for some special reason, often a subtle one known only to himself.Trilinga Swami was a fascinating man who exhibited many supernormal powers including the ability to bi-locate – be in two places at the same time. His psychic powers enabled him to gain mastery over the elements, and he would meditate under the water of the Ganges River sometimes for more than six months at a time."It is well nigh impossible to call Trailingaswami either a saint, a siddha, a yogi, a saadhaka, a baba, a paramahamsa, an avadhoota or an avatar for he is all and not merely one among these many, Swami Kritarthananda called him, ‘The Living Shiva of Varanasi”.
In due course of time he rose to be Trilinga Swami, Ganapatiswami, Ramananda Saraswathi and Mouni Baba, performing various miracles all through. The story goes that when Ramkrishna Paramhansa came to Benaras, he met Swamiji, to whom he mentioned his desire to visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple. But as time was running out, he concluded that it would perhaps not be possible. As he said this and turned around to leave, there stood, instead of Swamiji, Lord Vishwanath himself! After this divine sighting, Ramkrishna became a lifelong disciple of Trilanga Swami.
'As the sun is the doer, kartha, for the earth, for jeevi, the highest and the most important, the master is aatma. Owing to the sun’s rays alone, all living beings are able to carry on their activities. In fact the sun does nothing. In the same way, aatma in the human body, like the sun, shines as the karta. By its shining, by its radiance, the senses go on performing their functions.'This is just a glimpse into his teachings. He has dealt with topics like Aatma bodha, Chitta - Shuddi, Dharma, Upasana,Tanmayatwam etc. in a lucid style.
As the temple priest says, “Trilanga Swami had five disciples during his stay in Kashi who were instructed to not take on any disciples of their own.” This was Trilanga Swami at his reclusive best. The Swami’s preaching was in the form of dictation to his trusted disciple Shri Umacharan Mukhopadhyay. In fact he had announced beforehand the exact date he would attain nirvana. A month earlier, he personally supervised the setting up of his idol. On the due date, he took Samadhi (meditation unto death) directly under it.He attained Samadhi in the year 1887.

ReplyDeletek.23/95 panchganga ghat,varanasi
DeleteIt is said he was born in Madurai (TN) and was called as Kuzhandai Ananda Swamigal and one of his his jeeva samadhi is in Madurai itself (in 1935). There is a temple dedicated to him at Batlagundu in the foothills of Kodaikanal. He used to/still answer prayers of devotees in their dream. He has gone into samadhi many times and reappeared elsewhere to bless more devotees.
ReplyDeletethere are 3 connections with Varanasi to VIZIANAGARAM city, n district near Visakhapatnam AP...1. Gajapati Rajas (great great grand fathers of Sri Ashok Gajapati Raju, central minister NDA at present) built KEDAR GHAT in those days...even now it is most known to all public/milligram...2..Town Hall in Varanasi was built by them again...3 MOST IMPORTANT that Sri Maha Guru Trailinga Swamy hails from a village near by VIZIANAGARAM....he is neither from Tamil Nadu or from Telangana...we have a temple of Great Guru in that village even now people worship him...since he used to talk very less and then he spoke in telugu language...then the telugu pandits n teachers named him as Trilinga (trilinga desh =then telugu speaking area in Madras province...but the did not know from which part i.e rayalaseema, telangana or coastal..hence he is named as tilinga swamy as they found him as telugu originated person....

DeleteTrailinga Swamigal was a great yogi and he had four samadhis. He is later known as Rajapoojitha Sri Kuzhandaiananda Swamigal. He had four samadhis on which places temples were built. The places respectively are: Tiruvannamalai,Varanasi, Tenkasi and Madurai. Such is the greatness of this divine Mahaan.

ReplyDeleteDear Srikanth

It is true that Sri Ramakrishna went to Varanasi, went to meet Sri Trailanga Swami and recognized him as the incarnation of Lord Viswanath. He had the highest regard for him.But it is NOT true that He became Sri Trailanga Swami's disciple.Sri Trailanga Swami could accepted Sri Ramakrishna as his friend and offered him his own tobacco-powder-pot,which I heard has been preserved by Dakshineswar temple authorities. One can consult the authentic biographies of Sri Ramakrishna to get some details of their meeting.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Mahatma Trailanga Swami was not Guru of Thakur Ramkrishna Dev, but He was his Param Guru & during His Darsan of Trailanga Swami in Varanashi,He made few question(In which Thakur was confuse & no satisfactory reapply He got from any Pundit) to Shree Trailanga Swami, & answer of this question made by Swamijee, Thakur took as His Biz Mantra. One of that "what is karma of Jiva" Swamijee reapply "JIV SEVA".
DeleteSubsequently His disciple Swami Vivekananda got this mantra from His Guru & on inspired on it He establish Ramkrishna Mission for JIV SEVA. And He refine the mantra as "JEVE SEVA KARE JAI JON SEIJON SEBICHE ISHWAR"
We know Bhairavi Ma was disciple of Shree Trailanga Swami & on His order She came to Dhakhineshwar to clear the obstacle from the Sadhan path of Ramakrishna, and She established Him among the Pundit at that time as a real Sadhak, & She proof the symbol which was present in Thakur is not of a mad or of hysteria but of a real Sadhak.
If any one has confusion in it he welcome to disclose the name of the Guru of Bharavima.
All about what how genuine Sri Amarnath Poddar's comments are can be easily known visiting the Trailanga Swami Forum of Forum Jar.

Dear Friends,
DeleteEven we are devotees of Maha-Guru.
Dont waste your time foolishly going around finding Baba in Samadhi's.
Guru is always alive, Guru is always with people who love him and follow him.
When you can open up your heart and cry like how a small child cries when taken away from the mother, the mother listening to the child's voice, runs and come to rescue and love the child.
Same way wherever you are, whatever you are doing - cry, cry and cry with lot of love and ask guru to come and give you his maha darshana. He will surely do it.
This is happen for sure.
Idiots are the people who search for him in Idols, Photo's , Temples...Guru is everywhere, he may be beside you and you are not aware
Thanks
Hari
